Reals

I. rationals

the physicist knows one thing
the poet knows many more

in a language of laws and theories
experiences and experiments

all diverging from the singularity

that expanded into atoms

and the cosmic microwave background
to form particle collider arrays

and emergence

into fractal blooms

recurring at renormalised scales

in an infinity

of multi-touch pinch to zoom
actions

the poet knows nothing and everything
the physicist knows one thing

less and more

II. irrationals

water from the nose and eyes
burning like dragon fire
and the intense heat
of the wok
pouring in more love
than i could ever consume
a hundred times over
my mind dangling on the memory
of an afternoon pouring goldfish into a canal

and the burning –
i did not see the burning
as they closed the furnace doors
too fast
